PackCAD Mockup — Frequently Asked Questions
What is PackCAD Mockup?
PackCAD Mockup is a packaging visualization tool that transforms dielines and artwork into high-fidelity 3D mockups. Import a dieline, fold your design, add front and back artwork, and export customized 3D assets.
Which file formats can I import?
You can import vector dielines as SVG files and artwork layers as PNG or JPG.
How do I prepare dielines for best results?
Prepare dielines as SVG with cut lines in black and fold lines in red, blue, or magenta. PackCAD Mockup supports dielines in inches (in), centimeters (cm), millimeters (mm), or points/pixels (pt/px). For more information, read our Getting Started tutorial.
Does PackCAD Mockup support CMYK or spot colors?
Artwork is rendered in RGB for on-screen accuracy. Spot colors are not currently supported, but this feature may be added in the future — let us know if it’s important to your workflow!
What export options are available?
PackCAD Mockup can export 3D models in glTF, GLB, or OBJ + MTL formats, or embedded within an HTML file. You can find examples of these files in our Getting Started tutorial (in the “Export 3D Model” section). Also check out our Blender template and tutorial to learn how to create photorealistic renderings from your 3D models.
PackCAD Mockup also supports exporting high resolution 3D renderings in PNG format. You can find example renderings and additional information in our Getting Started tutorial (in the “Export High-Res PNG” section).
Is there a template library?
We don’t provide a built-in template library, but PackCAD Mockup is compatible with dielines created from external libraries, templating apps, or drawn from scratch.
How do I align artwork on my 3D dieline?
By exporting your design with “Use Artboards” selected, your artwork will have pixel-perfect alignment on your folded dieline in PackCAD Mockup. See our Getting Started tutorial for more details.
Will PackCAD Mockup run on my computer?
PackCAD Mockup runs in all modern web browsers on MacOS, Windows, and Linux. For best performance we recommend using Google Chrome, where the app has undergone the most testing.
How is pricing and licensing structured?
PackCAD Mockup is available for commercial use through monthly or annual subscription plans. A free personal-use plan is also available, with limited export options. See the Pricing page for full details.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime and will be able to access all Pro subscription features through the end of your billing cycle. For full details, please refer to our Terms of Use.
Can I use my PackCAD exports for commercial projects?
The Pro subscription allows you to use exported 3D models, images, and animations from PackCAD Mockup in commercial contexts, including paid client projects, marketing materials, and production workflows. With the Pro subscription, you own the exported files you create and may share them with collaborators and clients as part of your work, however, you may not resell, redistribute, or repackage the exported files as part of a competing product, template library, or software service. Form Finding Studio LLC retains ownership of any proprietary assets embedded within the exported 3D models, such as material textures (e.g. cardboard), lighting environments, and other protected content. For full details, please refer to our Terms of Use.
What happens to the dielines and artwork I upload?
You retain full ownership of any dielines and artwork you upload while using PackCAD Mockup. We don’t permanently store your uploaded files, but we may collect limited metadata (e.g., number of creases, presence of curved folds, import errors, etc.) to improve software performance. We do not use your uploaded files to train artificial intelligence (AI). For full details, please refer to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
